Just so you know this is not going to be about anything in particular but ways for you to think about how you can take control over certain aspects of your life. Secrets to being successful are looking inside yourself to know what to do.
Wondering why I am taking the time to share my experience with you? Turning 63 this year made me realize things in my life that I should have looked at a long time ago.
If what I am sharing here with you today helps just one person turn their life around finding the secret to them becoming successful then it was worth my time to write this article.
Take Inventory Now
How does taking inventory now have anything to do with taking control of your life? So very much once you get through reading this section it will amaze you.
Humans have a way of collecting things. What exactly do I mean by this? Look around you right now at all the things you have accumulated over the years. New just starting out? Keep reading it might be astonishing and keep you from doing this.
I mean really look how many of these things are necessary to your happiness or success? Downsizing out all of those things that are really not required in your life for happiness or success could put some extra cash in your bank account.
Why would you think about doing something like this right now? Well, you could wait until like me and then one day start looking around at all the useless things that you just had to have (for what reason?) and end up with a house full of them.
We are programmed from birth to own possessions, right? The more we have the more we seem to want. Seriously by doing this what we end up with later in life is a house full of useless things that we no longer use or need.
How to separate the needs and wants to get rid of the unnecessary things is easy really. Pick a thing up that you have if you have not used it in a year put it in the discard pile. Is it broken? Throw it away, you have not repaired it by now you are not going to.
The discard pile can then be separated into two categories those you can sell or donate because they are usable and those that might hold a sentimental value to the family.
If another family member does not want it then it needs to go in the sell or donate pile. Doing this will cut down on 99% of the useless things that you have accumulated so far.
I realize that this is going to one of the hardest things for some of you to do but it is necessary for you to reach control of your life. A key to being successful is demonstrating control over life and what we deem important.
Tips On Taking Control
Inventory complete then you must look at controlling keeping things to a minimum so this does not get out of control again. I have been working on this because it is difficult now not to just buy something because I want it.
You have money so when you are shopping it is easy to look at something and buy it just because you want it. We all do it and breaking this cycle is going to be a challenge. Then if you have children involved that makes it super hard.
Believe me, this does not only apply to your own children when grandchildren come along it makes it twice as hard. I should know I have been spoiling mine for some time now.
The problem with doing this is I still have things that belong to both my children and grandchildren in my house which are not needed or required. They have since been disregarded by them because they have outgrown them.
Another thing that you need to look at is working and having children. As parents who work they feel guilty in not spending the time with their children, therefore, buying them extra to show them, love.
Buying your children more is not a good thing to show them, love. They need you as a person to set examples and spend TIME with them. Your time is the most valuable thing you can give them.
We all have the same 24 hours in a day taking them to the park for half an hour instead of buying them a new toy would be better, but most parents do not think this way. Time is always at a premium and we are tired from working.
Getting back to basics is one of the best things you could do to help your children today. I always included my children in doing chores around the house, cooking, cleaning, planting a garden, etc.
Take the time to teach them and it becomes a rewarding experience instead of an all-out buying experience. Guess I got off topic here a little but these were a few things that some parents need to hear.
Set Schedules and Goals
Set a schedule that might sound funny to you as an adult. It will enable you to find wasted time that is valuable for you to find a way to succeed in what you are trying to accomplish.
A schedule keeps us on track to accomplishments that completed gives a sense of success in our personal lives along with our professional lives.
Set goals for things that you really WANT. Make your goals things you can control not about money (this will give you ideas for how to reach money goals later).
Short term goals could be simple such as doing the inventory above. Long term goals are going to be things similar to what people call a bucket list. Add things you would love to do before you leave this world behind.
One thing to make for all of this is a Dream Board it can help you reach goals in the short term and long term. A Dream Board is simple to make all you need to do is add to it when you find something you really want to accomplish.
Suppose you have always wanted to go to an exotic island for vacation, finding pictures of this adding them to your Dream Board will keep this fresh in your mind. Working toward that will take president over other small things that you purchase.
Remove the short term goals from your Dream Board as you complete them or move them to a completed Dream Board to keep track of all your wonderful accomplishments to date.

I am not saying that I have all the secrets to being successful but these are the ones that I have learned over the course of my 63 years here on earth.
